1. Point of View: identify the lens you're looking through: employee, self-employed, business owner, investor. Define the scope of consideration.

2. Leverage: Identify the high leverage issue. Choose what really matters.

3. SWOT: Using a SWOT Exercise; List Strengths, Limitations, Opportunities & Threats across Internal, External, Financial and Developmental perspectives.

"Once you have a clear picture of your priorities- that is values, goals, and high leverage activities- organize around them." - Stephen Covey

4. Beliefs: identify the assumptions surrounding the issue from all stakeholders in personal, business, network and professional domains.

5. Vision: construct a vision of how things will be: now, near and far--a motion picture of the ideal future state from the point of view.

6. Values: distill the core non-negotiable values using the above information to represent governing variables.

7. Principles: identify the universal guiding principles of decision-making as directed through identity: Beliefs, Vision, Values.

8. Purpose: generate a crystal clear statement that reflects a commitment to the core values and the strategic direction through the four perspectives in 25 words or less. This statement should contain a statement of identity encapsulating your values connected to a statement of intent encompassing the following categories.

9. Work: outline the Strategic Direction specifically in the four perspectives that guides intention and right action.

10. Metrics: create a Key Success Factor that objectively measures movement for each strategic direction using a gauge set into a dashboard.

11. Tasks: set specific Goals that will drive results in the direction of the strategic objectives outlined in strategic direction.

12. Limits: establish specific limits on routine and recurring behaviors as Standards to be used, adapted and modified to produce consistency over time at the customer interface.
